bergen’s christian tilt returns to norwegian label ploink with his debut album ‘alt skjedde jæla fort’ this september. norwegian christian tilt’s dedication to techno over the last two decades has securely placed him in high ranks to play alongside the likes of the zenker brothers, margaret dygas and ploink label head thomas urv at clubs such as berghain, jaeger and Østre - all in the last year. here though we see christian tilt make a return to ploink for a second time with a five track lp comprised of an intricate cross-section of syncopated rhythms and dubbed-out techno. ‘dos were the days’ slowly builds hi-hats and punchy kick drums, before a deep-synth melody drives the composition forward. up next is the stripped back ‘btl’ that combines otherworldly aesthetics with a steady bass rattle throughout, before the gritty ‘a visit from france’ unleashes a dark low-end, murky synth drones and frantic pad sequences. a relentless 9 minute affair titled ‘i only work late nights’ then swells and pulsates over an unremitting beat, before ‘Øreverk’ rounds off the package with frenzied clangs, muted hits and rhythmic percussion.

aus music bring a summer of firsts to a close as they follow up records from the newly collared recloose, trevino and paul woolford with another new addition to the team: tom trago. the rush hour regular joins the ranks with being broke - a bright and groovy four-track aimed straight at the dance floor of this seasons closing festivals. the a side offers up an original and dub version of the title track - a bumping house groove built with playful vocal samples and nifty synth lines. on the flip are two version of good lies - the first rolling out over its elongated duration with sharp, galloping hats and free-flowing rhodes notes. tension begins to develop as the track steadily snowballs gathering vocal snips and a menacing bass line while the good christian edit offers up a lighter, more early-doors affair bringing a nicely rounded package to a close.

catalogue number pp018 has been work in progress for quite a while now. wind-s originally appeared in a slightly different version as part of the soundtrack to one of rohtheaters plays. the track features all the typical obalski elements we have grown so fond of in the past. dreamy pads and odd melodies create the sort of ambient that carries you away somewhere else (bravo!). we decided that it would be interesting to hear other artists take their turn on the material. the japanese duo mascaras (chida & 5ive) transformed wind-s in an atmospheric drum workout. fantastically incorporating the breezy synth elements of the original into their flow of percussion. press play lift off. the b-side gives space to nick höppners epic techno groove. ecstasy evolving progress.

katastrofa ep is an ex-yu edits release which transforms forgotten gems from the former yugoslavia. russian valique and serbian veteran selector funky junkie are behind this project. opener katastrofa offers a delicious blend of heavy, synth-laden 80s boogie, punchy afrobeat horns and bold, chant a-long vocals, while the slower, more chugging frka is an adriatic delight all lazy, sun-kissed synths, sugary sweet vocals and sloppy kisses. as for closer yugoslavia, it sounds like a disco-house anthem in waiting, as the duo adds bumpin beats to a rising, horn-heavy chunk of starlight disco

ubers latest offering is a sublime 5 track ep from french producer shelter. sailing on a black sea is a drifting piece of ambient electronica. late night stargazing on the deck with the waves gently lapping on the shore. sad beach continues with the layered textures with a little more of a percussive feel. through the desert land is shimmering mesmerising journey through the dunes with loose congas soft guitars and a hypnotic jews harp. seaport theme continues the coastal vibrations but with a touch of bounce and uplifting choral vocal stabs and louche pads. finally water plain closes the journey with kalimbas and xylophonic melodies and the contining theme of phosphoescent seas and soothing synth sounds. a very accopmlished slice of beach bar balearica destined for sunsets around the med for years to come.

emotional especial and cocktail d amore music enter cahoot-mode once again with a second round of sfire remixes that take proceedings down a deeper, more stripped-back path courtesy of the inimitable timothy j fairplay and willie burns. two artists who need little introduction offer up two remixes each that take the unique original to new dance floor extremes. timothy steps up first with his take on -sfire 2- via differing vocal and instrumental versions. his trademark, echo laden rolling percussion and john carpenter-style key lines take the original synth-pop homage to the dark room. adding arps, a lifting, hedonistic breakdown and the scatter-stepper drums and claps found on the instrumental version and this is pure cotf territory and the better for it. mr willie burns meanwhile has long followed his own path for his take on -sfire 3-, offering one of his deepest remixes to date. thudding kick, brooding pads and dark strings force the vocals to go down, way down for examination. the distorted vocals of remix 1 are countered by remix 2 letting the track shine via a seemingly endless 4/4 beat. psychedelic, trance inducing, pulsating, this is an ever growing mind expanse.

sébastien léger delivers two solid originals and is backed up by arjuna schiks’ trippy dreamy remix. oracle has a french house sound to it characteristic of léger with a moroderesque arpeggio bassline. his excellent production skills shine brightest when he plays the keys in the second break. trytosphere is a somewhat new direction for the frenchman, a sunny track with a balearic feel to it. a real summer soundtrack. arjuna schiks adds a trippy take on the original with a nice upbeat energetic groove layered on top of a spacey bell and synth soundscape which echoes in the background.

entering with “cruising into the storm”, a raw synth and bass propelled work-out, moda squeezes energy in ounces into a midnight ready and sweat thirsty call to action. channelling his gang starr influences, break-beats are dug, dusted off and sampled onto “4 my people”. crackling joyfully and reminiscent of the 90s, a2 is not failing.

daniele baldelli producer now has nothing to envy about daniele baldelli the dj. this is demonstrated by the authoritativeness of the first two 12”s of six in the series -cosmic temple” on the mondo groove label. what first strikes the eye are the covers, with fluorescent colors, which will form a patchwork created by aldo drudi (the designer of valentino rossi), a large mosaic that interprets garish aesthetics/logoa cosmic. but immediately after the music takes the stage: 3 tracks in -chapter 1- and 3 tracks in -chapter 2-, are able to tell the true mood of the imaginary baldelli’s sound and take them to a land of wonders. chapter 2: the phrasing of zircaloy, and still that yin and yang that composed krebs cycle, with burattini on synth, a race horse deep disco at 120 bpm that goes into stratospheres, and afelio, a lethargic space ballet at 90 bpm.
